Exclusive Interview: Barney Packer

Unsigned artist Barney Packer has said he’s in the music industry to have fun and isn’t concerned about worldwide success.

Lincolnshire-based Packer, who recorded parts of his debut album on his iPhone, exclusively told Feedback Sessions his main goal as a musician is to enjoy himself and have fun as opposed to winning awards and having an influence on people.

“I’m not trying to change anyone’s life. I’m just trying to have a good time with it,” he said.

Packer’s debut album has been compared to The Smiths, but his laid-back approach as a person is a stark contrast to Morrissey’s. He said: “I don’t want to do a Morrissey and start telling people what to do with their life.”

Packer said being unsigned benefits him because it means he isn’t forced to take it too seriously and isn’t bound by time restrictions.

He said: “If you put too much pressure on yourself, it ruins it.”
